5 Habits That Will Make You A Happy Person

People that are happy day in and day out can be annoying sometimes, especially if you’re having a particularly crappy day. Their cheerful demeanour  and big smiles can grate while you’re going through some emotional upheaval.

What makes them so jolly all the time? Don’t they have their own troubles to worry about? What goes on in the mind of a happy person?

And can you be one?

The answer to the last questions is a big, resounding YES! Yes, we can all be happy. See, happiness is an inside job. Sounds cliche, but it’s the truth. Happy people don’t place their happiness in their partner’s pocket, or on their children, or their pet. They know it’s up to them to make themselves feel good.

A positive mindset doesn’t happen overnight though. You have to train yourself to look at the bight side. All. The. Time.

To achieve a healthy, positive mentality, practice the following every day :

Carpe Diem!

This is Latin for “Seize the day!”, and it’s such a powerful statement. It says “Take the day!”. Make it your s!

That is what Happy People do. They take the day, and make it a productive one in the best way they can. They don’t go moping around, thinking about the past, or biting their nails, worrying over the future.

Sure, they get bad days. Their car breaks down. They get to work late. They don’t make that deadline even though they tried. They get upset just like everybody else, but what sets them apart from us is they know when to stop being upset. They give themselves the time to be upset, then move on.

They take their day back and turn it around.


We’ve all woken up grouchy from lack of sleep because of one reason or other. When you find yourself starting to whine about every little thing: STOP.

Stop and focus on the one thing that is still going for you : your breath. You’re breathing. You’re alive. Be thankful for that.

There are a million things to complain about, but there are also a billion reasons to be thankful for.

Get a “Happy Place”

A “happy place” is a place in your home or outside of it where you feel good about yourself. It’s a place where you find peace and comfort.

When facing an unpleasant situation, visualise your happy place in your mind. Know that you may be having a bad day, but that you will soon be in your happy place once it ends.

The Power of Positive Thinking

There really is power in thinking positively, but not in the way that most of us think. Positive thinking will not get you what you want (although there are people that say it does!), but it does set you up so you won’t get so upset if you don’t get what you want.

If there is anything we have absolute control in, it is our thoughts so choose to focus on the good instead of the bad.

Don’t Be Too Serious

Remember that Bugs Bunny quote about not taking Life seriously because you won’t get out of it alive?

It’s absolutely true.

You have #LifeGoals. That’s great! But make sure to give yourself a break from time to time. Have fun. Live Life. All work and no play will make you a dull, sad person, and while it can be difficult at times, try strike a balance between work and play.

It’s challenging to change our mindset, but the good thing is as long as we’re alive, it’s not too late to start thinking and living happily.
